Experimental investigation on turbulent channel flow utilizing spanwise oscillating Lorentz force

Abstract: Experimental investigation on the effect of using spanwise oscillating Lorentz force to control near-wall turbulence is presented in this paper. The effects of spanwise oscillating Lorentz force on macroscopic flow field, near-wall coherent structure and skin friction are discussed. Direct numerical simulation is carried out to verify the experimental results. The results from experiment and numerical simulation suggest that the spanwise oscillating Lorentz force can make the macroscopic flow field oscillating periodically, the streak structures are twisted into the spanwise direction and the skin friction is reduced.
