A combination of ion source modulation and modulation of the accelerating voltage is employed for a 1.2 metre cyclotron to obtain pulsed ion beam. The minimum pulse duration is about 1-2 microseconds; the frcquency can be varied continuously from about 0.2 to 1000 cycles.
