A large strain of 14% during the martensitic transformation has been observed in the textured Ni50550.5Mn2424Ga25525 .5 polycrystal prepared by vertical zone melting unidirectional solidification. This martensitic transformation strain decreases to 08% at the ninth and tenth thermal cycles. Expansion and shrinkage phenomenon during the martensitic transformation has been obtained, indicating the existence of a preferential orientation of martensitic variants.
